Is water soluble personal lubricating gel from family dollar good?

My boyfriend and used the generic CVS brand of Astroglide and it worked well during sex, but the problem was that it was too expensive, well at family dollar they are selling lubricant for cheaper and I wonder how they work, because we need water based lube without lube our condoms will break, because it has happened before.
